I recently installed a newly rebuilt and balanced driveshaft on my '86 560SEC. My previous 60-65mph vibration was cured. The problem is, I have a "shudder" at app. 2,000 rpm with in 1st & second gear, mostly when the engine is cold. discovered low tranny oil, and at first topping off seemed to cure the problem. Not so much now.
Based on the Mercedes-Benz and replaced it with its own version of the Mercedes-Benz 5.6-liter V6 that powered the W126 560 SEC model. and its top speed was also outstanding for the time

One mine, if I remove the connector while idleing, RPMS just up to around 1100 rpms. Put connector back on and idle drops down to around 800 rpms. 305 posts · Joined 2021. #3 · Jun 30, 2021. I had a similar set of issues with my 88 560SL. I don't know what the root cause was but I sent the instrument console off to be reconditioned. Everything works fine now. $400. You don't have to remove the steering wheel to remove it.

All Joking aside, there really aren't that many fullsize coupes, about the only I know of that survived the 80s is the successors to the 560SEC, the CL class, and they almost universally come with a bunch of headaches. TBH, I would look further afield, and try to find a 560SEC in very good condition.
Extensive renovations occurred for the 1986 model year, with changes to the front and rear bumpers, side moldings, wheels, and a new assortment of engines. Prior to ’86 the top engine was the 5.0-liter V8, in the 500 SEC. The revamp saw the introduction of the 560 SEC, a bored-out version of the old 5.0.
In order to rise idle speed a little (if it’s below 600 rpm) the crimped end can be snipped off. 2)On the 560 the crimped end should always be snipped off (bypass open), in order to make idle, with its sharper camshafts, a little more Mercedes-like. 3)On the 500 it’s a solid plastic bar (bypass closed).

560SL Cold Start Valve. Well the honeymoon is over. The 560SL that I bought is a little hard to start cold. IT. t had very little fuel in it when it arrived so I figured it was just old gas and maybe transport. Filled it with premium, put two bottles of techron in it and drove the heck out of it. Runs really great, plenty of power.
